Ian has used his background to fight for enviromnmental issues and education.  Ian has advised the party on air transport policy and has succesfully fought for the environment, both on planning and ecological issues.


Main Career: A specialist in new technologies, Ian turns around failing multi million pound contracts.  Work included: Aviation, Police, Health, NATO, MoD, Telecommunications, etc.


Experienced Teacher - taught science, engineering, environmental & agricultural Science, Maths & ICT.

Ian has also worked with education as a councillor and has seen the schools in his council area become the top in the country.  Ian wants to spread good practice across the country bringing good ideas to Newcastrle and exporting Newcastle's good practice.  Our nation cannot afford to be isolated and we need to learn from each other.


Experienced Front Bench Councillor - 15 years as a councillor, on the front bench, past Deputy Mayor and Mayor. Currently he is bringing together a community to address homelessness and is due to raise in the region of £300,000 for key charities this year. His ward became top in its region and the safest ward with less crime.  A past guest of honour at embassies and foreign trade delegations.  He has spoken on more than one occasion to almost every faith community and is highly respected.


Campaigner - Holds a number of campaign records, including setting up a Focus team from scratch in two wards - delivering every Focus.  Then going on to win the seat from 3rd place within only 1 year.

Wife:    Heather (Married over 27 years), a trained linguist, her mother was brought up in Bamburgh.

Daughers: Anna doing GCSE's and Ruth studying  at University.
